In 2026 we organize
the Maastricht Year
A year full of new connections, old stories, and special events all over the city. Everyone is welcome – whether you were born here or just moved to Maastricht.
Special collaborations
A year full of special collaborations between different people, bringing old traditions back to life.
In a time of growing differences, connection matters more than ever. The municipality of Maastricht wants to bring people together by reviving individuals, moments, or events from the past. Groups will work together to bring stories and traditions of the city back to life.
Some people from Maastricht have lived here all their lives, others are new to the city — like expats, students, refugees or young families. The Maastricht Year brings all these people together. Because together, we are stronger. And together, we make the city better. We do this by looking back at the rich history of Maastricht — and using it to build new friendships and a more connected city.
The Maastricht Year is a celebration of the past, but above all a chance to get to know each other better today.
Do you want to shine in a historical parade? Or organize a special event together with others? Maybe you’d prefer to do something right in your own neighbourhood? There’s a way for everyone to get involved.
Step into a
living story
Bring a piece of Maastricht’s
history to life
Make your neighbourhood come alive with its own activity
Historical Parade
In 2026 we’ll bring Maastricht’s history to life! In a large parade that will show highlights from Maastricht’s history. It is inspired by the 1905 parade led by Fons Olterdissen. Always wanted to walk in a big parade? Everyone is welcome – young or old, clubs, schools or individuals.
City Program
In 2026, we will organize events together that retell a piece of Maastricht’s history—in a creative, innovative way.
Throughout the year, we want to host events in the city that bring historical figures, moments, or events back to life.
Neighbourhood Program
Are you planning to organize something in your street, neighborhood, or district, and does this activity connect to the history of the district or the city? Even if it’s an existing event, it can become part of the Maastricht Year.
